Finderscopes are necessary in finding objects at low power for polar alignment or quick spotting. In essence they are like half a binocular. You must properly align the finderscope to the eyepiece, so whatever you will see in the finderscope, will be in the eyepiece. Once you have found the object, use a low power eyepiece to refine your alignment. This is the same ViewFinder that is included as standard equipment with the Meade LX200 GPS telescopes.
